Pedal To The Metal

Caramel latte with half the amount of sugar free caramel syrup along and a pain au chocolat - check. That's my breakfast sorted. Window seat with the table - secured, and back pack on the top shelf above me - check.

It's generally quieter on Friday's but today's train got busier than normal. There are so many trains so frequently traveling to and from Birmingham and London that it would be extremely difficult to determine which train these events relate to. I'm saying this just in case someone reads this and thinks they've been observed while travelling and they're mentioned in this blog.

It's amazing how much information we can pick just by drinking a strong coffee and getting high on the sugars from a chocolate filled rectangular croissant or not croissant. For example at 9 O' clock the middle aged white lady sitting, wearing a beige formal long coat with the curly gingerish hair tied in a ponytail is putting on red lipstick just before reaching the next station. From her body language, I can read that she is getting ready to get off at this stop and from a quick glance while sipping my coffee, I can see that she is a pro at holding a bag and a small mirror attached to her phone case in one hand. And she is capable of putting on lipstick on a moving train while also being aware that she's about to reach her destination stop in under a minute. I am also 90 percent sure that the foundation on her face and the red lipstick is not something she's doing today to impress someone in particular but this is her normal work outlook she maintains to keep up her appearance in the office.

Please note, I may quote times like 9 O clock mentioned above to point out their position from where I am. Think of it like I'm sitting in the centre of a clock, so 9 O clock means that she was sitting towards my left where the number 9 would be on the clock or even 180 degrees from my position. This must sound like I'm paying extra attention to my surroundings, but I assure you I'm not. I'm writing this using the swipe feature of my mate 20 pro (yes I'm proud of it) which makes typing a breeze, while listening to my music, sipping coffee, texting my work friends (morning banter lol), and almost constantly looking at the phone screen.

I have just smiled at this 28 years old Pakistani looking lad wearing frameless glasses, dressed in a white collared shirt with blue lines tucked in his grey formal trousers and black laced £30 leather shoes sitting at 12 O clock. I smiled at him because he just pressed on my foot like a pedal to the metal in his car while typing away at his black lenovo thinkpad 15 inch and then instantly said sorry to me. I didn't wanna overreact, so I thought I'll be nice and do one good deed for today, so I gave him a big smile. I think he's swamped with his work because he is having to work on the train and he may have had a thought in his head which made him accelerate my foot. And because he didn't smile back makes me think he is not too pleased with how things are in his life currently or he's too busy thinking about something.

The seat at 9 O clock has now been taken over by a bit tired looking lady in her mid 30s with black framed glasses, black hair tied in a pony with a big beige hand bag on the seat next to her, wearing a thick formal long baby blue coat. She tried to catch up on her sleep for about 25 minutes as she leaned back on her seat with her eyes closed, but then impressed me with her one handed foundation application skills on the moving train.

What also caught my attention today is a group of youngish boys and a girl in their early 20s sitting at 11 O clock. Particularly the two pakistani boys dressed up smart in ties and suits and their modern trimmed and styled beards and faded haircuts as they're the loudest in the group. One of them keeps standing up in his seat and making some jokes to the group in his Pakistani British brummie accent with a sense of pride and achievement clearly reflecting in his tone, body language and behaviours. From what I can hear they're in a university together as they talked about their lectures and made some funny comments which shows they knew each other well. But clearly this lad standing up has some leadership and talking skills as the group responded to his jokes well and they all very attentively looked at him while he talked.

I am nearly reaching Euston now, hope you enjoyed reading it again and found some humour in my detailed account of observations today. Enjoy your weekend
Until next week
